Parents who homeschool their teens are brave individuals who usually have several reasons why they feel they should homeschool their teenagers. Sidne O'Reilly of Spectrum Living is one of those parents. She started homeschooling back in the mid '80's. Now her grown children are homeschooling their teens. She has experienced and observed the challenges involved in homeschooling teens.

Some of the things most homeschooled teenagers need:
  • More social interaction
  • Purpose in their studies
  • Increased trust and independence
Some teenagers desire to go to school to fill these needs. We provide an alternative. Homeschooled teens have a unique opportunity to spend large amounts of time preparing themselves for their adult lives, including education, careers, and service.

In a Positive Peer Group, teens meet each week with the same group of teens to share experiences and support one another in their life plans.

Positive Peer Group teens will be taught how to have a strong purpose. This is their life's work and will be the fuel for their studies. By proving themselves trustworthy, homeschooled teens are encouraged to find study and work plans that are most meaningful to themselves.

By having a strong purpose, a homeschooled teenager can direct his or her own education. They can design a path that will lead them to fulfil their purpose. This may include long periods of study, preparing for college, starting college early, apprenticeships, or working on projects of their own design.

PPG will provide the necessary ingredients that will make homeschooling a more attractive and viable option for teenagers. It will answer the need for teens to have like minded friends, direction and purpose and make meaningful contributions to their families, each other and their community.
